Siri in your living room: Apple unveils $349 HomePod

Parmenio Sano | 08 Giugno, 2017, 13:15

A new version of Apple's AirPlay wireless audio technology will allow users to synchronise audio on multiple speakers throughout the home. At $349 it's priced substantially higher than the $175 Echo and $129 Google Home.

Siri's voice detection is really bad. The tech giant says the speaker produces a high-quality sound that puts it on par with "un-smart" home music systems like Sonos. Unfortunately, Siri is tied to Apple Music, which means that Spotify and Amazon Prime Music aren't available (at least for now).

HomePod is controlled using Siri, the company's voice-activated personal assistant, which has, according to Apple, been trained to be better at answering questions about music such as "Hey Siri, who's the drummer in this?"

The speaker will sell for about $350 in December in the USA, United Kingdom and Australia. But if that's a problem for you, the Echo or Home may be better smart speaker choices. For years, Siri was trapped inside the computers and smartphones, and finally, Apple has open the door for its own home - HomePod.

Compared to the audio quality of Apple's new HomePod, the Amazon Echo is a significant mismatch. But smart speakers of the modern days have dumped that priority and instead have been toiling to improve its AI prowess.

For the most part, it seems the processor of the HomePod will be the same as that found in iPhones. During Jobs' last decade, Apple introduced the iPod, iPhone and iPad - all huge commercial successes that both reshaped daily life and swamped previous digital music players, smartphones and tablets. A Google Home killer?

HomePod includes Siri voice integration and will function as a "home assistant", according to Schiller.

Apple lovers already tend to be "premium product buyers", and may not flinch at paying more for what they believe is a superior quality product, said Gartner analyst Brian Blau. Do you know, this is the first time Apple has announced a hardware component, at this event. It will not actually block ads, though.

HomePod was Apple's announcement during the WWDC keynote address on Monday, June 5.

Apple is now using machine learning more than ever before. There was also a little something called the ARKit that could enable developers to build a vast augmented reality ecosystem for Apple, just in time for the release of the iPhone 8 this fall. So far, the service has limited payments to purchases of products and services from companies and other organizations.
