Polanski's victim pleads to end case: 'He owes me nothing'

Acilia Dean | 12 Giugno, 2017, 22:24

Roman Polanski's then-teenage victim from his 1977 unlawful sexual intercourse case made a rare appearance in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday and asked that the drawn-out criminal case against the fugitive Oscar-winning director come to an end.

One night in the late 70s, Samantha Geimer says she was drugged, raped, and sodomized by the celebrated filmmaker, but, as Minneapolis Star Tribune reports, Roman Polanski's victim feels more violated by the court process than the sexual abuses.

Geimer also played down the severity of what happened to her, saying Polanski had apologised and that they had exchanged emails in recent years.

Polanski, now 83, fled the United States to France in 1978 before his sentencing.

Asked why she didn't consider Polanski a pedophile for the crime, Geimer said, "I was nearly 14, I wasn't 10".

"I do miss acting and I have something surprising to tell you: I'm going to start acting again", Bynes said. First, Samantha suggested sentencing Polanski in absentia, giving him a sentence of time served.

In April, Geimer tried to get the DA prosecuting the rape case against Polanski to drop it from continuing to go forward by sending him "a harsh letter".

Attorney Harland Braun said Samantha Geimer will appear Friday, June 9, 2017 in Los Angeles Superior Court to help make the case that Polanski has served his time for the 40-year-old crime.

But Deputy District Attorney Michele Hanisee rejected the victim's motion to dismiss the case, arguing that it is in Polanski's hands to return to the country to end the ordeal.

Geimer said she felt her own feelings about the case don't matter to the court.

Judge Gordon, who praised Geimer for her courage and elegant words, said he would take the matter under consideration. She said that both she and Polanski had suffered enough through the years, and she stressed her family had been dogged by the case for decades.

"The people implore this court to deny defendant's motions and to summarily deny any future request to re-litigate these issues absent a showing of new facts or a change in circumstance", Hanisee wrote.

"I was a drug-doing Lolita who had cornered him", she said, describing the sort of insults that were thrown at her in the 1970s.

Numerous attempts by Polanski over the years to reach a legal deal have been rebuffed, the last just recently.

Polanski's lawyers have been fighting to end the case for years and lift an global arrest warrant that confined him to France, Switzerland and Poland, where he fled the Holocaust.

Tate's sister Debra spoke to The News on Friday, saying she hopes the judge will resolve the case so Polanski can join her for a visit to the cemetery.

Geimer, who was 13 years old when Polanski assaulted her in Los Angeles in 1977, was greeted by a phalanx of photographers and TV crews as she arrived for a hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court.

Polanski plied the girl with champagne and part of a sedative pill before raping her, according to grand jury transcripts. The next year, he was arrested in Switzerland and spent nine months in prison and under house arrest before Swiss officials denied the United States' extradition request. The actor was not at home at the time.
