The mayor of London called for Prime Minister Theresa May to cancel President Donald Trump'splanned state visit to the United Kingdom after Trump's latest outburst at the mayor following Saturday night's terrorist attack in the city. When the British press ridiculed Trump's out-of-context quote, the president returned to Twitter to accuse the media of buying the mayor's "pathetic excuse".
Khan told broadcaster Channel 4 that Britain should not "roll out the red carpet" for Trump, while Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said May "must withdraw the state visit".
On Tuesday morning he reiterated his stance, telling the BBC that "there are so many things Donald Trump is wrong about, and in those circumstances I'm not in favour of a state visit".
"When you have a special relationship it's no different to when you've got a close mate, you stand with them in times of adversity but call them out when they're wrong and there are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong".
She told The Sun that the President's comments about Mr Khan were "wrong" and said politics should be put aside during terror attacks. In the interview, Mr Khan was, in fact, urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they see more police and armed officers on the streets as a precautionary measure derived from previous terror attacks. The mayor aimed to calm fears in the face of an increased police presence, his spokesman said.
The President's eldest son criticized Khan for "attacking" his father, even though President Trump initiated the tweets.
Trump on Monday doubled down on his attacks on the London mayor.
Probed about what he meant, Mr Trump said: "Because I think if he does a great job, it will really - you lead by example, always lead by example. MSM is working hard to sell it!" the president tweeted Monday. The point is there is a reason to be alarmed.
Asked whether he believes Khan is at fault for what happened, Trump said, "I'm not. No". However, Khan is stressing that policy divisions are harmful and should be acknowledged, yet he pays lip service to the "special relationship" between the USA and England, which stands firm even while Trump's acting like a persistent, insult-tossing mosquito.
