Trump being investigated for possible obstruction of justice

Parmenio Sano | 16 Giugno, 2017, 03:00

Aaron Zebley is Mueller's former special counselor at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and known as his right-hand man. Nevertheless, the Post story is a blockbuster, if only because it should silence the Trump camp's long-held insistence that the president has never been personally under investigation for wrongdoing.

Sources today tell the Washington Post that Trump now actually is being investigated over allegations of obstruction of justice over the circumstances of Comey's firing. Looks like that fact changed shortly after Trump fired him for "that Russian Federation thing".

The Washington Post, citing unidentified officials, carried the report on Wednesday.

"The continued illegal leaks are the only crime here".

Coats told associates that Trump had asked him whether Coats could intervene with Comey to get the bureau to back off its focus on former national security adviser Michael Flynn in its Russian Federation probe, according to officials. Flynn was forced to resign for misleading administration officials about his contacts with Russia's United States ambassador.

Mueller has been tasked with leading the executive branch's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and any potential collusion between Russia and Trump associates.

After Mr Comey's testimony, Mr Trump said he had been vindicated because his former FBI director confirmed telling Mr Trump on three occasions that he was not under investigation.

Obstruction of justice is essentially defined as intentionally intervening or tampering with an ongoing investigation.

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is reportedly investigating President Trump for obstruction of justice.

The interviews could come as early as this week, the Post said.

According to one source, Mueller sees the obstruction claims as more than just "he said, he said" between Trump and Comey. Richard Burr, R-N.C., listen on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The White House has denied it put pressure on Mr Comey.

Mr Mueller was appointed special counsel after Mr Comey's firing.

Marc Kasowitz, the president's personal counsel, denounced this latest leak, which appears to emanate from the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Trump was forced to fire Flynn in February after he misled the White House about his contacts with Russian officials a year ago as a member of Trump's transition team.
