Trump Appears to Confirm He Is Under Federal Investigation

The Post reported that Robert Mueller, who is overseeing the FBI's probe into Russia's meddling in last year's United States presidential election and possible links with the Trump campaign, has expanded his inquiry to probe whether Trump obstructed justice by firing James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation chief.

Trump later said he had planned to fire Comey regardless of what recommendation he received from Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation.

His investigation then grew to include looking at whether President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey because he was unwilling to back off the Russian Federation investigation.

Mr Trump did not identify who "the man" was but appeared to be questioning the integrity of Deputy Attorney-General Rod Rosenstein - the Justice Department's number two official who appointed Mr Mueller on May 17 and wrote a memo to Mr Trump that was critical of Mr Comey's performance after the former director was sacked.

In a tweet, Trump appeared to confirm that that he was being investigated for firing ex-FBI director James Comey.

Robert Mueller, the man chosen to take over the inquest as special investigator, had started investigating into president Trump's behaviour.

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee on June 16 called on Congress to "unite to stop" Trump if he tries to fire Rosenstein or Mueller.

President Donald Trump has appeared to acknowledge he is under investigation in the inquiry into alleged Russian meddling in the United States election. Naturally, he condemns it as a "witch hunt".

On Thursday, Trump blasted news reports that he is under criminal investigation as a "witch hunt" against him led by some "very bad" people.

Mark Corallo, spokesman for Trump's personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, said earlier this week that, "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable, and illegal". In a series of tweets on Friday morning the president confirmed that he was being investigated for firing James Comey on May 9th. Trump fired Comey on May 9.

A Trump confidant said this week the president had considered firing Mueller.

Citing a memo from the general counsel's office of Trump's transition team, the Times said members were given the order on Thursday for any information involving Russian Federation or Ukraine in the latest sign of the investigation's expanding reach. "I can go around them", he tweeted. "Witch Hunt" he tweeted from the White House shortly before leaving for Miami.

Friday's tweet marked the first time Mr Trump has publicly acknowledged he is under investigation.

"If the president is innocent, why is he afraid of this investigation?" asked NBC's Chuck Todd in a Meet the Press interview.
