Cundy said five people who had been reported as missing had now been found and were safe and well. He says it will take weeks or longer to recover and identify all the dead at the charred building.

"Sadly, at this time there are 58 people who we have been told were in the Grenfell Tower on the night that are missing, and therefore sadly, I have to assume that they are dead", he said. "The Grenfell Action group firmly believe that only a catastrophic event will expose the ineptitude and incompetence of our landlord, the KCTMO (Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Office), and bring an end to the unsafe living conditions and neglect of health and safety legislation that they inflict on tenants and leaseholders".

They became outraged with the British government's response to the blaze, with lingering concerns on where residents will be relocated, if other buildings will suffer the same fate and the slow flow of information.

He also appealed to anyone who may have escaped from the building, but has not yet come forward, to make themselves known.

While 30 people have been confirmed dead, there are fears the death toll could hit hundreds. One opposition lawmaker urged the Conservative government and police to immediately seize all documents related to the tower renovation.

"We always knew that the death toll would increase", Cundy said, adding that there was nothing to suggest that the fire at the Grenfell Tower was started deliberately. Cundy said emergency workers have now reached the top of the building.

May, who has faced criticism of her response to the tragedy in which at least 30 people died, will meet victims, volunteers and community leaders, a Downing Street spokesman said. The group left after a meeting that lasted more than two hours but did not speak to reporters gathered outside.

May said after the meeting Saturday that there have been "huge frustrations" in the community as people tried to get information. Britain's Press Association says around 70 people are missing.

But police have warned it is still expect to rise, and some victims may never be formally identified due to the condition of the remains.

The head of state said a saddened country was showing resolve in the face of adversity and a determination to rebuild wrecked lives. "It is hard to escape a very sombre national mood", Elizabeth said in a message on her official birthday.

In an interview with the BBC late Friday, Ms May insisted she was "deeply affected" by the "horrifying" stories of survivors, and repeated that she was determined to help.

Residents furious over the handling of the Grenfell Tower disaster descended on the local town hall in west London Friday, shouting, "We want justice".

Alongside both police and fire investigations into the blaze, she has promised to set up a public inquiry. Experts believe the new paneling, which contained insulation, helped spread the flames quickly up the outside of the public housing tower. British officials have ordered a review of other buildings that have had similar renovations.

Rev. Mark O'Donoghue, the area dean of Kensington, told ITV News of Mrs May's "shocking" emotional response, saying she held the hand of one of the victims while residents described of their experiences. More than 3 million pounds ($3.8 million) have been raised for the victims.
