Heller won't back Senate GOP health care bill

Parmenio Sano | 24 Giugno, 2017, 04:43

Dean Heller of Nevada said Friday he opposes the GOP bill that would scuttle much of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, complicating the task party leaders face in guiding the banner legislation through the Senate.

"This bill.is not the answer", Heller told MSNBC. "It does not keep our promises to the American people", said Senator Rand Paul, who along with fellow Republican senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Ron Johnson said they could not support it in its current form. The GOP holds a 52-48 advantage over Democrats in the Senate, with Vice President Pence standing ready to break ties in the GOP's favor. However, the four senators do appear open to negotiations and amendments that could turn their "no" to a "yes".

Daines' statements have centered around saying he wants a bill that improves access to care and lowers costs for Montanans.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said lawmakers were ultimately anxious that Obamacare would collapse if they didn't implement the plan.

The CBO had found that the House bill would kick 23 million Americans off their health plans, making it unpopular with the public.

The Affordable Care Act offered help paying premiums to people earning between 100 to 400 percent of the poverty line, under the assumption that those under the poverty line would be covered by Medicaid.

Medicaid cuts. The Senate bill makes draconian reductions to Medicaid, which covers 70 million Americans, including low-income patients, nursing-home residents and people with disabilities. The bad news is that instead of facing a maximum of about $2,000 in additional bills for health spending, they'll have a combined deductible of roughly $14,000. Republican leaders controlling the U.S. Senate were wrong to keep details of their Obamacare replacement plan secret and to fast track it to passage by July 4 - all without public hearings.

"It doesn't protect Nevadans on Medicaid and the most vulnerable Nevadans", Heller said at a news conference Friday in Las Vegas, but he did not rule out supporting a reworked version.

Democrats have blasted the Senate bill, with some calling it "meaner".

The bill would let states get waivers to ignore some coverage requirements under Obama's law, such as specific health services insurers must now cover.

"These cuts are blood money".

I once again ask that the leadership of Congress from both parties come together to forge true bipartisan supported healthcare legislation for the good of our entire country.

The Senate bill maintains much of the structure of the House's but differs in key ways.

"[The Age Tax] would allow insurance companies to charge older Americans five times more for coverage than everyone else while reducing tax credits that help make insurance more affordable", the organization said in a statement. The proposed 40 percent excise tax on employer-provided "Cadillac" health insurance plans was scheduled to take effect in 2020.

A group of four Senate Republicans has already come out to say they are now a "no" on the bill, effectively killing it where it stands.

"The chaos the Republican Party is wrecking across our health care system won't just be felt in our insurance markets but in doctor's offices, ER's and clinics across the state of in", says Myers. That could give the failing private insurance market a needed boost and could prevent them from balking about having to continue to insure people with pre-existing conditions even as the individual mandate goes away.

The Senate bill would also erase the tax penalties Obama's 2010 law imposes on people who don't purchase insurance. "Protesters were physically removed by Capitol Police officers".
