Donald Trump reaches out to lawmakers on healthcare as another says ''no''

Sveva Terracina | 26 Giugno, 2017, 04:41

A handful of Senate Republicans are meeting in secret to craft a bill to replace the Affordable Care Act.

Concerns about the legislation are building from both sides of the Republican Party. So Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can afford to lose two members of his caucus but no more and still have the bill pass. That's because unanimous opposition is expected from Democrats in a chamber in which Republicans hold a narrow 52-48 majority.

Besides the five who've announced outright opposition, several other GOP senators - conservatives and moderates - have declined to commit to the new overhaul. The Times also reports that Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is on the fence, despite specific provisions in the bill meant to benefit her state. He said Friday he would vote against the bill in its current form but did not rule out supporting a revamped, final version of it.

Medicaid pays for most of the 1.4 million elderly people in nursing homes.

Tim Phillips, who leads Americans for Prosperity, the Koch network's political arm, called the Senate's plans for Medicaid "a slight nip and tuck" of President Barack Obama's health care law, a modest change that he described as "immoral". The Senate bill also calls for a tighter cap on federal spending in Medicaid overall than the House bill did. The Medicaid limit would move the nation closer to putting public health care programs on a budget, fiscal discipline that conservatives say is long overdue.

"I think it's very shortsighted if we don't start talking about our drinking water and wastewater infrastructure", she said.

The former president's description of the bill's fundamental meanness did indeed echo words used by Trump to describe the House bill, which passed in May after an earlier vote on the healthcare bill was cancelled due to a lack of support from within the GOP. So, I'm concerned about proposals the Senate's considering that would cut Medicaid funding.

"But I think they're going to get there", Trump said of Republican Senate leaders.

The office's report on the House's health care bill, which is similar in many respects to the Senate measure, said if it became law, 51 million people would be uninsured by the year 2026 - meaning 23 million fewer people would have insurance coverage than if Obamacare remains the law of the land.

Sandoval said the Senate bill "is something that needs to change".

Schumer says Democrats have made clear they would be willing to work with Republicans to pass a Senate bill if they agree to drop a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and instead work to improve it. They were Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas.

Next week the CBO will release its score of the bill.

"It was just released yesterday".

"Now we are able to bring them in and get their blood sugars down, their blood pressure down", Blair said in a recent interview. Iowa opted to expand, and has added more than 150,000 people to its rolls since 2014.

With potential cuts to the federal Environmental Protection Agency, the state could have to make some decisions about Alabama Department of Environmental Management funding.

On Saturday, Huckabee appeared on Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends", where he criticized Clinton, Schumer and other Democrats for attacking the health care bill.
